Losing Grip on My Reality

Here's the thing...I have been in the health and fitness industry for over 24 years now. I have two degrees in the area of health and fitness and I currently work as a health promotor. I have also been blogging about the topic for over a couple of years (at least). So please tell me why I cannot think of one more topic to blog about. Is this what burnout is? Could I be going through an identity crisis? Should I quick my job and pick up a paper route instead? 'Cause it's really starting to freak me out.

Since my last post in February (it's been way too long - I used to blog daily), I have been working on my pre requisites to be accepted into graduate school for counselling psychology. Since writing my last post, I was accepted into the program and spent my first summer in classes learning about, what I believed was, a whole new topic. Turns out clinical psychology and exercise / health psychology make very nice "bedfellows". I learned more about why people do not stick with diet and exercise in 6 weeks than I did in 5 years of my previous graduate work. So what am I going to do about it?

I feel the need to jump this "real life health" ship and start another blog on mental health and health behaviour but I am going to throw caution to the wind, get crazy, take a risk, and keep blogging on this site while merging what I am learning as a new counselling intern and student of counselling psychology as it relates to the age old question of how to lose the weight for good or how to stick to exercise without laying on the couch instead. Yup! This is my re-birth (so to speak)...I'm a born again blogger!

A lightbulb came on during my classes this summer and I cannnot wait to blog about it. For as long as I can remember, I was always wondering why people (for the most part) fail at healthy behaviour changes. I would literally stay up at night trying to figure out what is missing (because something is definately missing). I think I found that missing piece in counselling psychology and am very excited about what this may mean for the obese person or the person who hates to exercise.

So please visit this site again soon and feel welcome to leave a comment, story, joke, or question (as long as it isn't related to selling tape worms or caffeine tights for weight loss). I'll only use it as fodder for another post dispelling the myths of snake oil.

Otherwise, that's all I got for now.

  1. KC.. you know who this is. I luv to read your blogs and can't wait for more. This has come at the right time. I find something missing, not sure what it is. But, I eat ice-cream then chips to see if that is whats missing. But it's not...... the mental and physical are tied. I can't wait to read more, and thank you for blogging!
