Summer's Souvenir

It's finally getting chilly and the heat is going on in our house. I always look forward to these transition seasons, but the novelty soons wears off after a few days. I have been very lazy over the last month. With our move, my getting used to living with teenagers, and now having a kitchen with a junk food cupboard (I had nothing to do with that....believe me), the summer may be gone, but it left me a muffin top as a souvenir.

This morning, as I squeezed into my favorite running pants...I had to suck in my sourvenir to do them up. Nice. I can't wait for the feeling of distgust as I squeeze my ass into my dress pants. Stupid wine! Stupid cider! Stupid Ketchup chips! Stupid pasta! Stupid lack of self control!

Although not all is lost, and I still hold onto my committment to healthy eating, I have slipped back into some old behaviours. I'm trying to keep a level head and not let it get to me, but I have this one problem. Although I do not enjoy sitting here feeling the metal button of my pants dig into my stomach, I don't have the energy to get back on the wagon right now. What's up with that?

I am seeing many people dropping into my office now with the same stories. One client, I worked very hard with not too long ago, lost over 40 - 50 pounds only to gain 20 back over the last few months. We are now working together again. His mistake? He stopped journalling, attending to his eating and exercise because he lost the weight he so many others.

The one bitch about weight loss and maintenance is after you finally loose that weight, you can't take a break or reward yourself with all the foods you cut out during that weight loss period. You must maintain the diet and exercise regime that got you there (or something similar at least). That is the sole reason why it is so important to find foods and activities you enjoy rather than stick to something you don't until it works (for the moment).  After saying this, I do enjoy eating well...but I also enjoy the M and M's my admin assistant brought back from Vegas for me and the chips my "step daughter" forced me to buy last weekend. I love wine, nachos, and all those foods that will only get in the way of my weight management goals.

So what do I do?

I guess I have some wreckoning ahead of me. I either make the decision to loose this muffin top by eliminating those "fun" foods, or I make peace with it and buy bigger pants. I'll let you know what I've decided another time but right now I would love to slip into my sweats, my Snuggie, and a big bowl of hot buttered popcorn.

Why is that so wrong?

PS. Excuse any spelling or gramatical errors in this (and other posts). Blogger is not allowing me to spell check (I have to make the move to wordpress...maybe next time) and I'm too lazy to grab my dictionary (although I did have to look up "souvenir").
